Balearic Sea School
Welcome
The Balearic Sea School is based in Puerto Portals, Mallorca, and is open to all, whether it is to learn boat handling for the first time or to further career prospects as skippers by seeking additional qualifications.
Unfortunately in recent years the reputation of the Scheme became a little tarnished on the Island due to the number of bogus certificates being issued. The RYA became so worried that James Stevens (Cruising Manager) and Penny Haire (Chief Cruising Instructor) both visited the Island to discuss the qualifications necessary for the individuals carrying out the instruction and the penalties for not complying with these requirements.
As
a result of what had been happening it became obvious that it was time to launch
a new RYA recognised school that would maintain the high standard that had become
synonymous with the RYA. At a meeting between Squadron Yachts it was agreed to
launch a new motor cruising school. The school is open all year round and has
a state of the art classroom in the Squadron's complex of offices.
The responsibility for the School and for the motor cruisers falls to the Managing Director, Steve Wickenden.
